TI-A tag support

I would like to come back to the point that Gary brought up in this comment,
that the TIFF 6.0 Specification including the technical notes might be lacking some important tags.

One of them is the ICC Profile.

Another might be DateTimeOriginal, for example, but that could probably also be put in the image description or in a separate metadata file.

What are, in your opinion, necessary (or optional) tags that should be supported, but are not in the TIFF 6.0 or the technical notes?

We certainly have to think about the color tag for ICC profile. Hwoever, I would restrict the valid color profiles to a few very common ones, e.g. AdobeRGB (which has a wide gamut) and sRGB (standard for screens and internet).

Support for a rich set of metadata is important. The XMP tag (700) should be allowed, as well as all the Exif 2.3 tags, unless there are specific reasons for excluding some. This suggests that the Exif 2.3 specification should be one of the defining documents. The number of pieces that go into even a simple, minimal definition of "TIFF" is disturbingly large.
